WINNIPEG -- Robert Marve knows that when you give Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans something
WINNIPEG -- Robert Marve knows that when you give Winnipeg Blue Bomber fans something to cheer about, you feel the love. Taurean Prince Jersey . Marve is one of three quarterbacks coach Mike OShea says are in the running to back up starter Drew Willy for the Bombers. He spent a scant few minutes on the field last Thursday at the end of a 24-22 loss to the Toronto Argonauts but didnt waste a second. He rushed for 17 yards and connected with three out of four passes, including one for a touchdown to rookie receiver Donavon Kemp. It game fans a reason to cheer, and they responded in person and on Twitter. "I did get some Bomber love," he said Thursday after practice. "That was nice. The fans are awesome and I appreciate all the support." Marve will get another chance to play Saturday when the Bombers visit the Calgary Stampeders in Calgary, but coach Mike OShea couldnt say how much. "Well see all four," he said. "Now how the times broken down, well see how it all plays out. But the plan right now is, as I said yesterday, to give Drew all the time he needs to feel comfortable and for the offence to get comfortable with him." Willy also didnt sound too concerned Thursday about how much time he will get as the team plays its last pre-season game before their CFL home opener against the Argonauts June 26. He had two seasons with the Saskatchewan Roughriders in a backup capacity and at least on Thursday was getting a lot more playing time in practice. OShea insists the role of backup in Winnipeg is still very much up for grabs. In terms of CFL experience, Max Hall would seem to have the inside track. He finished last season as the pivot the Bombers turned too most often as they struggled to find a way to win. But they also brought in Marve and Brian Brohm to audition. At just 25, Marve is the youngest of the three. A high-school star in Florida, his college career was marred by three operations to repair three tears of the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee. Likely as a result, he was undrafted in the 2013 NFL Draft but attended the Tampa Bay Buccaneers rookie minicamp on a tryout basis. He insists his knee feels better after this last operation than it has since it was first injured and he doesnt let the injury in any way dictate how hes going to play. "No, Im a loose cannon. I cant play holding anything back. And as you kind of saw on that one drive Im a pump up guy. I like to run around and make some things happen. "So I felt good in the game. My knee felt fine when I was running so Im ready to go physically." His last operation was about a year ago and he finished his college career at Purdue before having it. Among the cuts the Bombers announced Thursday was their No. 1 draft pick in 2012, offensive lineman Tyson Pencer. Although Pencer, who was taken third overall in that years CFL draft, has spent much of his time with the Bombers on an injured list, OShea said they have seen enough to know he was not going to make the team. They also released import defensive linemen Stafford Gatling and Louis Nzegwu, import offensive lineman Quentin Saulsberry and another draft pick, defensive back Kris Robertson, who they selected in the second round last year. Mike Muscala Jersey . "I have had no discussions with Chad Johnson or his representation," Popp said Friday in an email. However, he appeared to confirm a report on Twitter from TSN this week that Johnson was on Montreals negotiation list. Miles Plumlee Jersey . General manager David Poile called signing Ribeiro a great opportunity to add a talented, experienced and creative centre Tuesday when he introduced the veteran at a news conference. Ribeiros contract is worth $1.05 million after being bought out of the final three years of a $22 million contract by the Coyotes recently. http://www.hawksteamproshop.com/Cheap-Do...ks-Jersey/ .com) - Colorado may be ahead of the Vancouver Canucks in the Western Conference standings, but they are a club that the Avalanche may want to avoid in the playoffs.ATLANTA -- Jacob Turner is sticking in Miamis rotation for at least one more start. Turner allowed two runs in his first start in six weeks and the Marlins knocked Mike Minor out of the game early in their 6-5 win over the Atlanta Braves on Tuesday night. Turner (3-6) made his return to the rotation after eight relief appearances and performed just as manager Mike Redmond hoped. Turner gave up four hits in five innings. "That was great," Redmond said. "We talked before the game about him stepping up and getting another opportunity to go into the rotation and he did exactly that." A key for Turner was the first inning, when he loaded the bases but allowed only one run. He ended the inning when Evan Gattis hit into a double play. "Being able to get out of that with just one run was huge," Turner said. The Braves only other run off Turner came on Justin Uptons third-inning homer. Donovan Solano had a career-high four hits and also reached on a walk as Miami took its second straight win over Atlanta to open the four-game series. Christian Yelich had two hits and scored three runs. Steve Cishek pitched around Chris Johnsons leadoff single in the ninth to earn his 23rd save. Pinch-runner Jordan Schafer was caught stealing before Cishek struck out Andrelton Simmons and pinch-hitter Ryan Doumit. Minor (3-6) was rocked in his shortest start of the season, giving up six runs on 10 hits and two walks in three-plus innings. Minor said he felt strong but "way rustier tonight." "And thats not an excuse, either," Minor said. "I felt good." Minor said he threw "pretty good" in the bullpen before the game. "Then I got out there and I just wasnt throwing to the corners," he said. "It was one of those games I felt like I was trying to aim the ball a little bit." Miami led 6-2 before its bullpen gave up three runs in the eighth, including Jason Heywards two-run single. Heyward drove in three runs with two hits. The Braves began the night one game behind first-place Washinngton in the NL East. Pete Maravich Jersey. Turner made his first start since a loss at Texas on June 11. He struck out the side in the fourth as he earned his first win since June 5. "He gave us five innings," Redmond said. "We didnt want to push him too much considering hes been in the bullpen for a while." The Braves enjoyed a promising start off Turner. B.J. Upton led off the first with a double before Turner loaded the bases with two one-out walks. Heywards single to centre drove in Upton before Gattis hit into a double play to end the inning. Like Turner, Minor allowed only one run in the first inning after the Marlins loaded the bases with no outs. He gave up three runs in the third and was pulled after giving up three straight hits to open the fourth. The left-hander has allowed 10 or more hits seven times in five seasons, including five times this year. Giancarlo Stanton had a run-scoring double and Jeff Baker drove in a run with a single in the Marlins three-run third. Turner opened the fourth with a double off Minor and scored on Yelichs single. After Solanos double left runners on second and third, David Hale replaced Minor and gave up Marcel Ozunas run-scoring groundout for a 6-2 lead. Minors ERA rose to 5.32 as he allowed six runs for the second straight start. Following Uptons 18th homer with two outs in the third, the Braves didnt have another hit until Tommy La Stellas eight-inning single off Mike Dunn drove in Tyler Pastornicky, who walked as a pinch-hitter. Bryan Morris replaced Dunn and gave up Heywards two-run single, trimming Miamis lead to 6-5. Braves first baseman Freddie Freeman leaned over the rolled-up tarp to reach into the stands and catch Bakers foul popup in the ninth. NOTES: The Marlins lead the season series 6-5. ... Gattis was 0 for 4 in his second straight start since coming off the 15-day DL. ... Braves RHP Ervin Santana will make his third start of the year against Miami when he faces RHP Nathan Eovaldi Wednesday night. Santana is 1-0 with a 4.50 ERA in his first two starts against the Marlins.
